Our Focus

The SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) is dedicated to decreasing the incidence of suicide among Veterans. At the heart of our mission is the commitment to enhance the overall well-being and mental health foundation of Veterans. We achieve this through fostering social connections and facilitating access to both VA and external community resources. Our multifaceted approach emphasizes personalized support, aiming to build resilience and a supportive network for Veterans, thereby contributing to the prevention of suicide within this valued community.

Eligibility

SERVED IN THE ACTIVE MILITARY

Discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.

SCREENING

Mental health and well-being screening to verify some risk factors for suicide

FOUND TO BE AT RISK

Be evaluated and found to be at risk of suicide using the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS)

Also Available to Family of Veteran

  • Over the age of 18
  • Only eligible to begin services after an eligible Veteran is enrolled and engaged in the program

Coordination of supportive services based on
the administered Needs Assessment

INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICE PLAN

Development and monitoring of an
Individualized Service Plan (ISP)

CONNECTION TO SERVICES

Connection to VA and non-VA
suicide prevention services

REFERRALS

Referrals to community resources,
activities, and peer support specialists

EDUCATION

Providing educational material on recognizing
suicidal thinking and lethal means safety

EMERGENT NEEDS ASSISTANCE

Connection to services for transportation,
income support, child care, and more

Additional Assistance

  • Food on an emergency need only (no regulatory limit)
  • Childcare with a licensed provider ($5,000 calendar year limit)
  • Transportation (funds will be tied to a service plan goal such as employment, childcare, etc.)
    • Transportation funds include:
      • Uber, Taxi, Bus Tickets, etc.
      • Car repair (limited to $1,000 in a 2 year period)
      • Car Insurance (limited to $350 annually)
  • General stability financial assistance (limited to $750.00 per calendar year)
    • General stability funds include:
      • Employment-related: Driver’s license, uniforms, tools, etc.
      • Gun locks
      • Gun safes
      • Phone bill (limited to $50 annually)
  • Security deposit and utilities for housing on a case by case basis
