Sean, Robyn, and their five kids between the ages of 1 and 6 came to Milwaukee in search of employment. Encouraged to do so by a local friend, Sean, a 35-year-old veteran, not only found that the jobs were non-existent, but also the promised housing. After draining their financial resources on motel accommodations while Sean searched for other work, the family ended up sleeping in the family van rather than divide up among an assortment of already overcrowded shelters. Other social service agencies referred Sean to the Center for Veterans Issues. Within three days of story publication, CVI was able to place the family in permanent housing and help Sean find employment as a mechanic.
