Servicing America's Veterans
The Center for Veterans Issues offers many services
to veterans. Services are designed to capture homeless
and low-income veterans and empower them for independent
living. Please contact us
for more info.

Education, Training and Employment
(ETE)
ETE services are provided to eligible veterans.
Funded by the Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program
(HVRP), under the US Department of Labor, the purpose
of ETE is to provide services to assist in reintegrating
homeless veterans into meaningful employment within
the labor force and to stimulate the development of
effective service delivery systems that will address
the complex problems facing homeless veterans.
CVI provides an array of services utilizing
a case management approach that directly assists homeless
veterans as well as provides critical linkages for a
variety of supportive services available. The program
is "employment focused," and veterans receive the employment
and training services they need in order to re-enter
the labor force. Individual assessment, job placement,
computer training, job development, career counseling,
job interview workshops, and resume preparation are
among the services that are provided.
Supportive services such as clothing,
referral to medical and substance abuse treatment, and
transportation assistance are also provided to meet
the needs of the veteran. The emphasis on helping homeless
veterans get and retain jobs is enhanced through coordination
with various programs and organizations such as the
Social Development
Commission and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee/Veterans
Upward Bound.

Motivational and Self-Esteem Groups
Veterans enrolled in CVI programs are either on an employment
track or a benefits track. Those that are seeking employment
attend motivational groups, which help the veteran deal
with rejection from employers. In order for the veteran
to remain positive during the search for employment,
this group therapy provides the veteran with a "job
coach" who actively motivates the veteran to stay
focused and keep trying.
Those
veterans that are applying for benefits, or who may
already receive benefits, may cope with low self-esteem
issues related to a disability or psychological issue.
Mismanaged anger and rage is a major cause of conflict
in these individuals' lives. The self-esteem group therapy
offers anger management and problem-solving techniques
to help the veteran cope with daily life.
